Job Description:

The Group Disability Supplier Management team identifies and delivers value to plan members, plan sponsors and Sun Life stakeholders by developing strategic relationships, driving performance of our service provider network and improving client and business outcomes.

We do this by:

  • Improving the quality and consistency of 3rd party services
  • Reducing financial, legal and operational risk
  • Optimizing investment in services that result in return to work outcomes and reduced claim duration for the client
  • Managing, measuring and continuously improving the effectiveness and efficiency of internal and external operations
  • Promoting innovation to secure and maintain Sun Life’s position as market leader related to disability service offering

Reporting to the Director, Supplier Management the business consultant will effectively manage the selection, performance management and contract renewal and compliance activities for the Group Disability preferred provider network. The successful candidate brings strong communication skills and is comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.

What will you do?

  • Establish practices and guidelines for the selection of external providers that reflect Sun Life’s disability management philosophy and principles
  • Researches the market to determine the best and emerging supplier/partner trends within the disability prevention and management as well as establishes strong working relationships with the provider community
  • Maintain constant communications both internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist in the development of communications to ensure messages are well positioned and timely for end users and providers of these services
  • Maintains effective working relationships with SLF’s suppliers while performing appropriate level of due diligence over the relationship
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders including executive sponsors and operational leaders ensuring the supplier relationships continue to deliver value to the business
  • Participate in the resolution of issues raised on the performance of the supplier and monitors progress on the resolution. Track issues for discussion with the supplier and for trending purposes
  • Manages internal and external expectations regarding our current capabilities (what we can and cannot do) and provides support to Business Development in the preparation of client RFPs
  • Engage internal and external customer/provider feedback to assist in developing more effective working relationships and take action on feedback
  • Complete quarterly relationship management reporting and lead provider performance review discussions
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Services – Strategic Sourcing to develop an annual strategy to support Group Disability regional offices
  • Lead contract renewal process in collaboration with internal partners (Legal, Compliance, Finance, Privacy, IT Security, Taxation, etc.) to create comprehensive contract documentation and service agreements for providers
  • Ensure quality-monitoring system is in place internally to track performance to contractual KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)
  • Ensure Supplier Quality Assurance Programs are in place and reported on the agreed upon schedule
  • Assist in development of budget forecasts, performance and trending reports, identify issues, strategies and opportunities for cost containment and take appropriate action

  • Comfort in working with all levels of management

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
