Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Manager, Geospatial Infrastructure Systems. Works as a Geographic Information System (GIS) applications expert and supervises GIS, spatial data management and general cartography and graphics production in Geomatics.
Work PerformedMaintains an in-depth working knowledge and provides advice to Geomatics on the best use of the latest ESRI technology required to meet division, department and corporate GIS initiatives. Designs, implements and maintains GIS databases. Co-ordinates GIS development with Information Technology Services (ITS). Functions as Data Steward for Corporate GIS Library. Develops procedures, instructs and trains staff in the use of ESRI technology. Participates in the GIS technical advisory group.
Receives work requests for and prepares maps, graphs, charts, sketches, technical drawings, presentation graphics, topographic mapping, digital imagery, GIS data and mailing labels etc. from Geomatics clients including staff from across the Corporation, Council, the public, contractors, consultants, outside agencies and other levels of Government.
Assigns, directs and checks and supervises the work of subordinates; schedules work within the Division. Ensures timely product delivery and client satisfaction, complete.
Researches and determines the appropriate technology and source data needed to produce the required products. Recommends the execution of licence agreements as necessary.
Gives advice on the interpretation and application of the policies, standards, methods and procedures of the Division to consultants, developers, contractors and members of the public and to other Divisions, Departments and government bodies.
Arranges and attends meetings with other Department/Divisional staff, developers, consultants, contractors, individuals, and other agencies to plan, discuss and coordinate projects on behalf of the Division/Department/Corporation as required.
Recommends the acquisition of specialized software for Divisional use. Installs, configures and maintains specialized software on workstations of the Division that is not supported by ITS.
Supervises the testing and participates in the hiring of new staff.
Recommends the scheduling of vacations and the granting of overtime and casual time off for subordinate staff.
Utilizes GPS and total station surveying technology and performs field work when required.
Reviews Engineering Drawings for conformance with the City’s drawing standards. Maintains a filing, retrieval and reproduction system for departmental plans in hard copy and digital forms on behalf of the Department (PlanFile). Provides City services information to consultants, contractors and the public.
Represents the Manager, Geospatial Infrastructure Systems in GIS services and cartographic/graphics inquiries when the Manager is absent .
Maintains a working knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Regulations as they relate to Geomatics.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum two year post-secondary GIS, geomatics, engineering or applied science technology diploma/degree with specialty in geographic information systems leading to GISP designation.
Experience:
Over five years related experience.
Specialized Training & LicensesDemonstrated proficiency as an applications expert using ESRI geodatabase technology.
Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office technology including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Possesses a valid Class-G driver's licence.
Compensation and Other Information$54,093$78,599 (Level 14)
This is a permanent position being filled on a temporary basis for up to 2 years.
Other Information:
Current hours of Work: MondayFriday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
