Construction Coordinator Job Openings in Sherwood Park

Job Overview:

APTIM is currently seeking a Construction Coordinator to add to its Canadian Services Wood Buffalo team. The Construction Coordinator will be part of APTIM's site leadership team and be responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, and closing-out safe, reliable and effective maintenance, construction, and turnaround services at one of Canadian's largest Upstream Oil Sands facilities.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Turnaround and Maintenance Experience
  • Tank Maintenance and New Construction Experience
  • Alberta P.Eng. status
  • Willingness to be project assigned for periods of time possibly throughout Canada, the role will be based out of Sherwood Park office
  • Strong background in construction planning
  • Background in lift planning
  • Exposure to estimating
  • Perform walk downs in process units to provide constructability input for assigned work scopes
  • Review work scopes, develop planning deadlines, and review planning status with internal and external stakeholders. Lead scope clarification meetings as required with core internal functional groups.
  • Generate scope execution job steps and estimates based on existing conditions, historical performance, and craft supervision input. Estimates to include materials, labour, equipment, and temporary facilities required to execute the job scope.
  • Develop safety plans in conjunction with client process operators and APTIM HS&E group
  • Prepare and solicit bid packages for subcontractor scopes of work
  • Develop lift plans / lift forms for approval
  • Identify long-lead and commodity materials required, solicit quotations, and support site team in procurement
  • Generate construction execution job packages clearly indicating scopes of work, safety requirements, mitigations, and contingencies with input from APTIM site team
  • Develop pressure test plan boundaries and coordinate plan with client process operators.
  • Assist in preparing energy control and blinding strategies for the scopes planned and executed.
  • Perform dimensional verification and field take-offs for required materials. Verify materials ordered match materials received.
  • Assist in preparing schedule logic within work scopes and between work scopes executed during the same time window.
  • Perform field walk downs with craft supervision to communicate execution work package requirements, safety risks and mitigations, and key quality control steps. Provide field supervision, site leadership, and counterpart training on work packages as required.
  • Monitor and verify progress in the field; escalate as required to ensure conflicts and roadblocks can be removed.
  • During field execution, presence in the field required to address shift priorities, resource needs, audit work plan compliance, coordinate support craft needs, and requisition materials.
  • Prepare and coordinate equipment and schedule needs for upcoming execution shifts
  • Trouble shoot and provide technical support and layout for field supervision and crews.
  • Prepare and submit change requests, RFIs, and other documentation as required to manage the existing conditions to the defined scope of work
  • Generate appropriate communications for upcoming shift scopes of work including required priorities, safe work permit requests, coordination requests, and shift hand-off documentation as applicable
  • Demonstrates through words and actions an example of professional leadership with respect to safety, quality, and customer interactions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering or Construction Technology/Management or the equivalent combination of education and work experience in a related field is desired.
  • 2-8 years of experience supporting industrial construction projects
  • Experience with petrochemical construction, maintenance, or turnaround projects desired
  • Motivated and passionate self-starter
  • Adaptability and agility to learn and contribute in varying complex environments
  • Advanced self-awareness and interpersonal skills
  • A consistently developing business and technical acumen coupled with a drive to achieve results
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team
  • Displays leadership potential
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Willingness to work primarily in the field.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver license and a clean driving record
  • Willingness to relocate within Canada to support business objectives.

This position will require working for extended periods of time in the field and regularly within a construction or office setting. Field conditions will include, but are not limited to, working outdoors in extreme heat, cold, precipitation, dust, dirt, loud noise, and occasionally from height. Office conditions will include, but are not limited to, working in a standard office setting with office noise. The role will require the employee to walk, stand, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, crouch, sit, reach, type, observe, listen, and speak.
