    EPCOR Technologies is an integrated engineering, construction and maintenance firm with a rich history of delivering complex infrastructure projects for government, utility and private company clients, including developers, general contractors and industrial organizations.     Brief Description As the Estimator, you will be accountable for the delivery of project estimates relating to engineering, construction and maintenance projects undertaken by Technologies, as well as analysis of construction/engineering costs. Detailed Description Reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will be accountable for (but not limited to):
    • Providing input to the Estimating plans and directions, and ensure on-going appropriate relationships with other positions.
    • Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics, ensuring that plans are in place to deliver accurate estimates.
    • Reviewing specifications, drawings, and estimate requests to determine scope of work, material requirements and required content of estimates.
    • Preparing full cost estimates including labour, equipment, subcontractor and material costs at the conceptual, preliminary and final stages. Ensure delivery of estimates meets customer expectations.
    • Consulting with Business Development, Engineering, Projects, Operations, Procurement, and contractors / suppliers to ensure estimates reflect current pricing and construction costs.
    • Assisting with the development and updating of estimation and cost control tools, templates, and processes.
    • Maintaining records of construction, maintenance, and other activities & conduct comparisons of planned work, estimates, historical data and actual work performed.
    • Conducting studies and analysis to develop, establish and update cost task units and to find areas of cost reduction, gathering input from required stakeholders.
    • Promoting department efficiency by maintaining current knowledge of best practices, enhancing best practices and incorporating knowledge and experience into day-to-day activities with the team.
    • Analyzing and identifying issues impacting estimating processes and provide input to establish initiatives for continuous improvement.
    Job Requirements The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
    • Diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering Technology or Construction Management from a recognized educational institution or equivalent combination of work experience (i.e. Journeyman Electrician with Transmission/Distribution).
    • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in an estimating capacity for multiple construction projects or portfolios, including experience using estimating software.
    • Comprehensive understanding of fundamentals of project costing and construction methods
    • Knowledge of best practices in estimating, project management and construction for transportation, electrical and utility projects
    • Experience using B2W Estimate estimating software would be an asset.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines
    • Strong understanding of available decision support tools (MS Excel, Penta, B2W Estimate)
    • Familiarity with standard project management tools and methodology
    • Strong understanding of competitive estimating processes and available tools / software
    • A strong understanding of the EPCOR Technologies business, including work execution methods, processes and policies
    • Ability to review specifications and drawings to gather project information and estimation requirements
    • Demonstrated strength in decision making and analytical ability.
    • Ability to analyze situations and data, draw conclusions and develop a plan of action to address issues
    • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated conflict management experience

    • A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)
    • If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
    • If you are being considered for a driving position, a current 5 year commercial Driver Abstract will be required.
  • A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
  • To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
