Reporting to the Team Lead Industrial Monitor, this position is responsible for implementing the ’s Industrial Compliance Program. Primary duties include:
Monitor Calgary’s Industrial base to ensure Bylaw compliance and to protect wastewater treatment plants and infrastructure.
Issue clear water waste and dump station permits by determining the suitability and compliance of the wastewater and ensure Bylaw compliance.
Help in the development and delivery of various communication programs related to the safe disposal of industrial wastes.
Generate reports regarding spills, releases, bylaw non-compliance and lab results.
Provide guidance, training and technical expertise to members of the Water Quality and Compliance Monitoring Group and Bylaw Services.
Remain current with new developments in industrial monitoring and new technical advancements through conferences and courses.
Assist with program development and administration; review and analyze new regulations and recommend appropriate program changes and requirements. Perform related duties as assigned.
The successful applicant must possess one of the following combinations of education and experience:
A completed 2 year diploma in a related field such as Chemical Technology or Environmental Technology plus a minimum of 5 years relevant experience; OR
A related degree plus a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
Relevant experience includes environmental and industrial wastewater sampling and exposure to environmental legislation, pollution prevention and wastewater treatment.
Must be registered or eligible for registration with the Association of Science and Engineering Technical Professionals of Alberta (ASET) at the technologist level or have an acceptable equivalent.
Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than six demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending.
Possess strong communication and interpersonal skill. Work effectively with others and be able to support teamwork environment and promote safety at work. Have a high level of organizational and computer literacy combined with technical depth in the area of environmental, source control and industrial effluent treatment technologies. Additionally, this position requires effective decision making skills and knowledge of municipal bylaw, provincial and federal regulations related to environmental and wastewater.
Applicants will be tested for appropriate skills.
Must be able to obtain a operator's permit.
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test:
An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months. Union: CUPE Local 38

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $42.0656.23 per hour
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with one day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
