Preferred Background:
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree which includes preparation in Public Health Nursing from a recognized University. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required. Two years of recent experience in counseling, educating, program planning, implementation related to communicable disease management and investigation is preferred. Experience in cold chain storage and handling preferred. Excellent writing and communication skills, skill in critical appraisal of research studies, and knowledge of health promotion is essential. The incumbent must be proficient with computers and a variety of software. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Working Conditions: The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screen, by the first day of employment. The incumbent must have an up to date record of immunization. Travel may be required between locations within . Incumbent must supply own transportation and have a valid Ontario driver’s license. Flexibility in work schedule is required for on-call work and other issues as they arise on a rotational basis, for seasonal respiratory outbreak management, for provision of Directly Observed Therapy, and for program needs as required.
Duties:

  • Works in a specialized program to provide counseling, case management and consultation to individuals, health professionals and groups on infectious disease-related issues including tuberculosis.
  • Develops and implements educational initiatives on a variety of infectious diseases, vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) and infection prevention and control issues for agencies, institutions and the community at large.
  • Investigates reports of infectious diseases and participates in outbreak management, including respiratory outbreaks in institutions.
  • Provides immunization in community-based or specialized immunization clinics.
  • Conducts cold chain inspections and investigations and provides support and education for cold chain issues.
  • Participates in activities related to the management of emergencies of public health importance.
  • Performs Direct Observed Therapy (DOT) services as required.
  • Participates in project and program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Responsible for utilizing an electronic data base as part of case management systems.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
