Water and Waste Water Operator – Up to 2 positions
Kenora is a City of choice, renowned as a sustainable, lifestyle community supported by

The Water and Waste Water Operator will be responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and
skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance and repair of the City’s Waste
Water Collection and Water Distribution Systems. The individual will demonstrate initiative on a daily
basis, understand the role they play within the community and have excellent customer service
skills.
Qualifications:
Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
Ontario Ministry of Environment Waste Water Collection Class 2 License and Water
Distribution Class 2 Certificate.
If no qualified candidates, the Employer may consider the following under fills in this order:
o Waste Water Collection Class 1 License and Water Distribution Class 1 Certificate and
must successfully complete the Class 2 exam within two (2) years of date of hire.
o Waste Water Collection OIT License and Water Distribution OIT Certificate and must
successfully complete the Class 1 exam within two (2) years of from date of hire.
o If no certification, must have a minimum two (2) years previous work experience
directly related to the repair and maintenance of water and waste water systems and
must successfully obtain their OIT licence within the first year of hire.
o *all successful applicants will be expected to maintain licenses and certificates in
good standing and obtain their Ontario Ministry of Environment Waste Water
Collection Class 2 License and Water Distribution Class 2 Certificates.
Must possess a valid ‘DZ’ Class Ontario Driver’s License. Must provide a clean driving record
at time of application.
Must be able to understand water distribution maps and construction drawings and
demonstrate the ability to perform all functions related to water distribution systems.
Knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act as it pertains to Water Distribution Systems.
Ability to work independently or in a team.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skills with a proven focus on
service delivery.
Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health &
Safety Act and Regulations specifically concerning the requirements for job hazard analysis
and the development of and training on safe work procedures.
Must be physically fit and able to lift 50lbs. frequently and occasionally up to 100lbs.
Ability to perform manual labour for extended periods of time and willingness to work in
varying climate conditions.
Ability to get along well with others including supervisors, coworkers, members of the public
and other partners in service.
Summary of Duties/Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of assigned duties and tasks to ensure operation, maintenance, and
repair of Wastewater Collection and Water Distribution Systems.
Performs construction and installation of new lines, existing line maintenance and repairs.
Performs sewage pumping station maintenance and repairs.
Operations a variety of large and small equipment, hand and power tools.
Operates, maintains, and repairs all valves, fire hydrants, manholes, and all other
appurtenances as it pertains to water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
Troubleshoots and identifies water and wastewater flow problems.
Must be prepared to work overtime, be available for call-outs, emergencies and stand-by
Salary & Benefits: Benefits in accordance with Collective Agreement.
Salary:
OIT (not licensed) $27.51/hr
OIT (licensed) $28.46/hr
Class 1 Operator $29.84/hr
Class 2 Operator $31.90/hr
