Reporting to the Manager, Mental Health and Addictions (MHA), the MHA Supervisor oversees the delivery of programs provided by MHA Outreach Workers, MHA Youth Program Facilitators and MHA Assistants. The MHA Program Supervisor impacts the overall management of community programs and enhances support for MHA staff.

The MHA Supervisor will be responsible for the orientation and education of new staff and be a proponent in implementing quality services for mental health and addictions clients. Operating within a defined budget, the incumbent is required to use sound judgement in allocating funds in the most appropriate manner, to ensure relevant and effective service delivery. The MHA Supervisor is also responsible for providing human resources support and supervision by participating in staff recruitment, hiring panels, orientation and training and development to provide the region with appropriately qualified staff. The Supervisor will also be required to travel to communities to provide orientation, training and general support.

The knowledge, skills, and experience required for this job are usually obtained through a Post-secondary undergraduate degree in social services, mental health or related field along with two (2) years of experience working in a social services, mental health or related field. At least one (1) year supervisory, leadership, or mentorship is also required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
