British Columbia Rapid Transit Company Ltd. (BCRTC) maintains and operates two of Metro Vancouver’s three SkyTrain lines. SkyTrain is the first and one of the longest, fully-automated, driverless, rapid transit systems in the world. It boasts an average on-time service performance rating of 95 per cent and moves on average 250,000 passengers per weekday.

Both the SkyTrain lines operate out of BCRTC's Operations and Maintenance Centre in Burnaby, where more than 900 dedicated staff work in the areas of administration, engineering, elevator and escalator maintenance, field operations, vehicle maintenance, and wayside (station and guideway) maintenance.

The Expo and Millennium SkyTrain Lines connect downtown Vancouver with the cities of Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Moody, and Surrey. Responsibilities

The Support Shop Technician (Electronics Shop) is responsible for the production of prototypes, modification, calibration, testing, fabrication, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all electronic equipment required to maintain safe and reliable SkyTrain operation.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
Graduate from a two-year electronics technology diploma program from a recognized technical institute (BCIT or equivalent) in Electronics coupled with a minimum of 5 years recent related trades experience.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of five (5) years recent experience as an electronics technician with direct responsibility for the following:
  • board level diagnostics;
  • level III testing and bench repair of electronic equipment;
  • repair and testing of telecommunications equipment; and
  • repair of microprocessor boards.

Previous experience and demonstrated ability to use a variety of alignment and diagnostic test equipment considered an asset.
Registration with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (ASTT) as a technician or technologist considered an asset.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong Verbal and Written Communication Skills
  • Ability to Work In a Group Environment

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process.


A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.


In accordance with the Canadian Railway Safety ActRailway Medical Rules: Section 3.2, employees who work in or transfer into safety sensitive or safety critical positions are required to undergo pre-placement and periodic medical assessments that evaluate the impact, if any, of medical conditions on fitness for work.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week.

Rate of Pay

Wage: $45.45 per hour.
