Since 2012, we have invested more than $400 million in facilities, people, processes, and technology, making Halifax Shipyard one of the most modern and capable shipyards in the world. Over the next 30 years our shipbuilders will construct 23 modern patrol ships and surface combatants for the Royal Canadian Navy as part of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, the largest defence procurement in Canadian history.
This year, we will deliver the lead Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship, the largest Navy ship built in Canada in 50 years. And we’re just getting started. We have built more than 80% of Canada’s current combatant fleet and continue to perform maintenance and modernization work on the ships, including the Halifax-class frigates.
We are currently seeking an Administrative AssistantLocal 28 to support the Facilities and Maintenance department in a temporary role for a period of up to 12 months, located in Halifax, N.S.
The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities and qualifications:
Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing administrative support to Director, Facilities and Maintenance
  • Acting at point of contact for inquiries to the Facilities and Maintenance Department
  • Maintaining computerized records across several different in-house systems including but not limited to:
    • Department reporting
    • Utility utilization
    • Parking data
  • Procurement activities related to the requisitioning of goods and services and managing related invoicing.
  • Performing general office duties such as filing and retrieving information, working with correspondence, and preparing information for meetings, reports, or ad hoc requests
  • Providing general administrative support to the team as needed
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications:
  • Education required: Post-secondary education would be considered an asset
  • Years of Experience Required
    • 1-2 years of relevant work experience
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Proficient to expert knowledge in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • The ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced industrial environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
