Salford Group Inc. is a global manufacturer of farm tillage, application and seeding equipment located south of Ingersoll, Ontario. As a business that supplies the AG industry, deemed an ESSENTIAL Business, Salford continues to operate during the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to continued growth Salford it is currently seeking a fulltime Buyer. The responsibilities and qualifications are as outlined below.

Buyer Job Duties

  • Manage Salford’s largest commodity group of supplied materials/products, exceeding $25mil in value.
  • Build and maintain partner-relationships with major suppliers
  • Identify new vendors/product opportunities, North American and Global
  • Develop strategies and appropriate documentation for RFQs / negotiations / and contract management to improve cost, quality, delivery, rebates, returns, etc. and manage business risk
  • Manage activities in the procurement system (Infor) and work with process partners to ensure data quality at all stages of the P2P process (e.g., requisitioning, ordering, expediting, receiving, and paying
  • Create, issue and maintain database of steel specification sheets. Track steel market indices and maintain regular contact with steel industry sources.
  • Manage new vendor qualification and new part approval processes. Also manages vendor performance scorecards and annual performance reviews.
  • Manage quality and delivery issues with vendors, steel mills, service centres and value-add processors.
  • Maintains up to date files, including communication schedule with key suppliers, and bring forward system for contracts and related correspondence. Anticipate risk and ensure it is managed; proactively pursue solutions to potential problems and ensure implementation
  • Work together with a team of Expeditors responsible for P.O. processing and incoming material/parts expediting.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal policies and regulations including environment, health, and safety

Qualifications and Skills

  • The ideal candidate will have minimum 5 years successful purchasing experience handling large commodity groups, in a manufacturing environment, preferably in an agricultural or heaving equipment sector or within a fabrication shop.
  • Must have proven experience negotiating large contract buys, including steel, specialty steel materials, raw steel.
  • Having a Post-secondary degree/diploma in Business Administration or Materials Management or an equivalent combination of experience and qualifications would be an asset
  • The ideal candidate will proven experience using ERP procurement systems. INFOR experience earns you triple bonus points.
  • Experience or knowledge of farming equipment an asset
  • Effective oral and written communication to enhance a professional company image.
  • Self-driven with a strong work ethic.
  • Excellent organizational, time management skills with an ability to prioritize.
  • Effective computer skills in Microsoft suite, including advance-level Excel skills.
