Our Stations Planning Office is seeking a Senior Advisor. The Senior Advisor contributes to the planning of GO Rail stations in support of the objectives outlined in the Station Access Plan (2016), Regional Transportation Plan, and in support of corporate programs, such as the Market Driven Strategy.
What will I be doing?

  • Develops public-facing corporate strategic planning documents that integrate corporate policies, programs, and financial frameworks, to convey corporate business direction and objectives
  • Provides strategic planning services to divisions and business planning units, to clarify strategic direction and ensure alignment with the GO Rail Station Access Plan and other corporate directions
  • Manages station and other related transit planning projects from start to finish
  • Provides station planning support on transit corridor planning projects
  • Builds partnerships throughout to strengthen corporate alignment between business unit activities and Station Access Plan objectives
  • Leads and conducts comprehensive policy & planning analysis and research to guide capital infrastructure investments
  • Provides input and advice to staff and senior management on transportation and land use policy and planning issues, in the overall context of the government’s transportation priorities
  • Builds and maintains relationships with and consults with external partners, including municipal partners and provincial ministries, on station planning issues
What skills and qualifications do I need?
  • Completion of a degree in Urban/Regional Transportation Planning, Urban Design, Engineering, or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
  • Minimum six (6) years’ progressive experience in multi-modal transportation planning, land use planning, master planning, and/or policy development, with demonstrated experience in coordinating concurrent projects, analyzing and evaluating findings, assessing implications, developing conclusions and making effective policy and capital investment recommendations
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, performance measurement, and related processes and methodologies
  • Strong planning, research, analytical and problem solving skills, to identify transportation, land use and environmental issues, with an understanding of current transportation policies, plans, programs, and directions
  • Excellent communication, writing, presentation, negotiation, consultation, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills, including coordinating contracts and overseeing vendors/consultants, with the ability to coordinate a number of complex projects under pressure
  • Proficiency in graphics and desktop publishing software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) is an asset
