    Here is your opportunity to utilize your case management knowledge and communication skills to provide a range of case management services to the Safety, Licensing Appeals and Standards Division, Tribunals Ontario (SLASD).
    SLASD is a cluster of adjudicative tribunals responsible for resolving and deciding matters arising from over 30 statutes relating to auto insurance, public protection and safety, including compensation claims and licensing, policing, parole, fire safety and animal care orders.
    What can I expect to do in this role? In this role, you will:
  • perform case management functions for the adjudicative tribunals of SLASD to provide dispute resolution between parties through issues resolution and adjudication of cases
  • coordinate the intake, analysis and investigation process for assigned cases
  • implement and interpret new and/or revised operational policies and procedures pertaining to SLASD business transformation and an expanding mandate to ensure streamlined customer service and quality assurance
  • act as the primary contact for parties to proceedings and their representative and counsel, with respect to legislative and regulatory provisions under multiple statutes, and procedural matters for case conferences and hearings
  • assess files to ensure that issues and/or risks are identified for the OIC member or the Manager of Operations/Registrar
  • prepare and review legal materials in support of the resolution process

  • How do I qualify? Mandatory
  • You are proficient in English as well as oral and written French at the superior level

  • Case Management Knowledge:
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of case management procedures, techniques and standards within an adjudicative cluster responsible for hearing appeals, including Rules of Practice, administrative law and the adjudicative process
  • You can apply knowledge of the appeal process to higher courts (e.g. Divisional Court) and jurisdiction of other adjudicative tribunals, to communicate the dispute resolution process to clients

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
  • You have demonstrated oral communication skills to respond to various inquiries and issues from represented and self-represented parties regarding the adjudicative process
  • You have demonstrated written communication skills to draft a range of materials including letters to parties, documents required in support of the hearing process, and correspondence for signature
  • You can exchange information with the clients of multiple tribunals

  • Analytical and Issues Management Skills:
  • You have demonstrated analytical skills to assess supporting documents and submissions for compliance with multiple provincial statutes, and to assess and prioritize statutory requirements within timelines
  • You can review draft decisions and orders prepared by OIC members for accuracy
  • You have demonstrated risk assessment and issues resolution skills to review and identify, assess and resolve contentious issues
  • You can interpret and implement new and revised operational policies and procedures
  • You can evaluate cases, resolve issues and complaints, assess and recommend operational improvements to streamline case management operations

  • Technical Knowledge:
  • You have the ability to interpret and apply relevant tribunal legislation (e.g. Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, the Statutory Powers Procedure Act), policies and procedures and protocol to provide case management and hearings services
  • You have the ability to acquire knowledge of the legislative and regulatory provisions and interpretations under the multiple statutes within SLASTO's jurisdiction, in order to respond to inquiries from parties
