Labourers work in crews of all sizes, and are responsible for both general and area-specific labouring duties. So what exactly could you be doing? Depending on the area you are assigned to, your duties may include:
  • Sweep sidewalks and collect refuse in parks, playgrounds, streets and natural areas
  • Landscape construction services
  • Light to medium shovel work, including digging holes
  • Service and monitor amenities in parks, such as fire pits, washrooms and pavilions
  • Care for shrubs and flower beds, including watering, planting, weeding, mulching, pruning, cutting and clearings
  • Mow, seed and water grass
  • Apply fertilizer and/or pesticides
  • Load and unload materials from trucks
  • Sports field turf care and maintenance, including mowing and line marking
  • Assist with urban forestry, including tree maintenance, tree planting, stump grinding and nursery operations
  • Grind, patch, pour, spread and level concrete
  • Support the maintenance of asphalt roadways, including paving, crack sealing and manhole/pothole repairs
  • Operate and take responsibility for the minor maintenance of equipment
  • Operate light delivery vehicles transporting materials, supplies and pulling trailers
  • Assist tradespeople in general building maintenance and construction
  • Use of light hand and/or power tools
  • Assist in the maintenance and inspection of wooden sidewalks, steps, fences, guardrails, playspaces, chain link fences, retaining walls, bridge structures and foundations
  • Remove snow around bridges, sidewalks, stairways and approaches, and sand slippery sidewalks and crosswalks
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications :
  • Grade 10 or equivalent
  • Ability to understand and perform oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work alone and within a team
  • Physically able to perform the assigned tasks and duties of the position, including manual labour and the use of simple hand/or power tools and light motor vehicles for long periods of time in various weather and environmental conditions
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position. Successful candidates must provide a current 5 year driver's abstract
  • Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the 's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position

Successful candidates may be eligible for recall for the 2021 season

Up to 600 temporary full-time positions for up to 8 months
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Sunday-Saturday, 24/7 coverage. Applicants may be required to work shift work, on short notice, holidays, and after hours and early morning shifts, as required to fulfill operational requirements
Note: Individuals unable to work the entire 2020 season may be considered for the Relief Labourer position at a lower salary grade. Relief Labourers may work up to a maximum of 18 weeks from April 14, 2020 to September 18, 2020

  • Labourer I: $21.425$29.709 (Hourly)
