New employees must provide documentation of a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) prior to their start date at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Staff will require clearance from Employee Health and Wellness before they are able to begin any position within SMGH.
The Cardiovascular (CV) Technician will prepare patients for and conduct diagnostic tests (e.g., electrocardiograms, stress tests and holter monitor) in an accurate, professional and timely manner. CV Technicians are responsible for the use and maintenance of supplies/equipment and may assist in clerical duties associated with scheduling and filing ECG test results.
Independently performs 12 and 15 lead ECG's, application of a loop recorder as well as a 24 or 48 hour holter monitor
As a member of the team conducts exercise stress tests, stress echocardiogram and Nuclear Medicine stress testing
Accurately and clearly records all information on appropriate documents
Maintains testing logs and files according to established guidelines (i.e., MUSE)
Collaborates with clinician/nursing staff and report abnormal findings
Carries out routine maintenance/cleaning of equipment as per guidelines
Current registration with the Cardiovascular Technology Association of Ontario (CTAO)
Graduate of a recognized Cardiovascular Technician program or equivalent
Must have 3-5 years recent and relevant experience
Good knowledge of ECG, exercise tolerance and holter scanning/analysis and reporting
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers/technological devices
Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Evidence of continuing professional development
