Reporting to the Associate ManagerImmunization for Northern Alberta, the Nurse IIClinical Development Nurse, Communicable Disease Control provides expertise/consultation to Public Health Centres on matters relating to immunization, and communicable disease control. CDN-CDC Key Responsibilities: Contribute to the control of communicable disease through follow-up of notifiable diseases, including outbreak management, and Blood and Body Fluid Exposures (BBFE). Provide expertise in maintaining best practice standards for the delivery, and monitoring of immunization programs. Provide expertise/consultation to support the recommendations of the zone Medical Officers of Health in Public Health investigation and follow-up of notifiable and non-notifiable diseases, as mandated under the Alberta Public Health Act. Play a critical role in communication, development, implementation, and evaluation of province-wide CDC immunization and notifiable disease standards and guidelines in AHS for business operations and service delivery with a particular focus in Edmonton Zone. Liaise with colleagues/stakeholders to coordinate case and contact management. Participate in leading change and be the expert resource to facilitate implementation, establish, maintain, and mentor best practice relationships among both internal AHS staff as well as external partners (e.g. leadership/participation in orientation and education sessions). Act as a link between the local PHC sites and zone/provincial CDC program. Act as a key resource for notifiable diseases for Zone Public Health partners and community/external provincial/national stakeholders. Integral member of the Public Health Centre leadership team with other site CDNs and the Operations Manager. Member of the Needle-stick Response/CDC On-Call Team. This position may provide support to Provincial CDC Programs.Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life SupportHealth Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).Additional Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years recent (within the past 5 years) experience at a 0.50 FTE or greater in the Alberta provincial Public/Community Health Nursing programs is required. Comprehensive knowledge of the Alberta provincial immunization program, schedule, and standards is required. Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision, to work well in teams in both zone and site capacities. Demonstrated critical thinking, conflict resolution and problem solving skills. Demonstrated excellent leadership, organizational, analytical, and decision making skills are required. Demonstrated skills of computer applications including word processing (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), and Internet access are required. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with members of a multidisciplinary health care team is required.Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of communicable disease control programs in Alberta. Previous experience working in communicable disease control programs in Alberta. Experience with electronic immunization and health care databases is an asset. Currently employed as a Public Health Nurse in a Zone Public Health team in Alberta.
