The Municipality of has an opening for a temporary full-time Engineering Technologist II. The Engineering Technologist II assists and under-takes surveys, technical designs, approval reviews, infrastructure condition assessments and database inventory management, contract preparation and site inspection for storm and sanitary sewers, water main roads and other projects within the municipality of in accordance with standard specifications, policies, and regulations. This position is for a period up to one year.

About Engineering & Transportation:
The division oversees a wide variety of technical services to many client departments within the Corporation. These services include project management, the design and contract administration of civil heavy construction projects as well as traffic and transportation engineering. The division manages contracts associated with the provision of public conventional, accessible and interurban transit services. The division develops work plans for asset replacement and rehabilitation, capital improvements and infrastructure expansions related to approved Master Plans. Infrastructure asset inventories are managed and lifecycle budgets developed for the annual road, sidewalk, bridge, culvert, sanitary and storm sewer rehabilitation and replacement programs.
Assists with designs for a variety of civil engineering projects, including sanitary and storm sewers, watermain, pumping stations and drainage works, pavement, curb and gutter and other tasks as assigned
Assists with design drawings in AutoCAD and AutoCAD 3D Map
Assist in the preparation of project estimates, local improvement assessments, construction scheduling and traffic control plans
Operate survey equipment including GPS, total station, automatic measuring devices, transits and levels to check and collect field information
Performs assessments of infrastructure under the direction of the Engineering Technologist I
Assists with the preparation of specifications and reports including the preparation of contract documentation for the procurement of tender and proposal bids
Respond to and assist with resolving public complaints related to traffic, traffic control, roadside parking and transit concerns
Convert, import, export and edit infrastructure data (which includes all municipal assets such as sidewalks, pavement, railway crossings, guiderails, etc.) in and out of various Infrastructure Geospatial Engineering Management systems such as Arc/FM, GIS and XPSWMM
Support for technical reviews of development design submissions for infrastructure servicing of subdivisions and site plan developments including storm water management
Perform field/site inspections including traffic counts and speed studies, construction observations and assist with contract administration
Data entry into Traffic Engineering Software (TES or equivalent) and preparing/inputting information and notifications for special events and road closures
Assist with traffic signal programming, design and operations, traffic control warrants, sign installations, pavement markings and moving permits
Ability to demonstrate ’s Core Values and Competencies through a combination of education and experience:
College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (CET designation and/or eligible for designation) or University Degree in Civil Engineering (P.Eng or EIT) or Technologist (with limited licence) with experience in the Municipal field, or equivalent related working experience.
Familiarity with the Local Improvement Act, Municipal Standards, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Provincial Standards and Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code including Geometric Design Standards and Highway Traffic Act.
Familiarity with the Ontario Traffic Manual including sign installations, traffic control warrants and pavement markings.
Knowledgeable in the use of Traffic Engineering Software (TES), traffic signal programming, Synchro or equivalent traffic modelling software and XPSWMM
Excellent computer skills in AutoCAD 2007 or higher, MicroStation, ArcGIS and knowledgeable in the use of total station and GPS equipment
Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or other similar software program)
All employees will be required to complete their Health & Safety and other on-line mandatory training on or before their first day of employment; other training (including Health & Safety policies) may also be required
This position works both indoors and outdoors.
Hours of Work:
This position works weekday hours, with occasional weekend hours.
Driver’s license/vehicle requirements:
Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G (or higher) Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of . An acceptable driver’s abstract will: be an original document and current (within the previous thirty (30) days); have no more than four (4) demerit points; have no more than two (2) convictions for the same offence; have no criminal code convictions; have no ‘non-medical or administrative’ license suspension in the preceding three (3) years.
Essential physical and/or safety requirements:
Walking: frequent walking on level surface
Sitting: frequent sitting in chair and/or vehicle seat
Standing: frequent standing indoors and outdoors
Hands: frequent fine finger dexterity (movement), gripping, pinching, mousing
This temporary full-time position has an hourly wage rate of $32.151 to $36.345 (2020 rates based on grade 7 of the 2020 non-union full-time compensation plan), plus 15% in lieu of benefits (which includes health & dental benefits, statutory & non-statutory holidays, and non-enrolment in OMERS) and 4% vacation pay. Where a permanent employee is receiving benefits and is the successful candidate for a temporary vacancy, benefits will remain as per the policy manual.
