Quality Assurance Technician Job Opening in Lethbridge

Cavendish Farms is a leading producer of frozen food products for retail and foodservice markets throughout Canada, the United States and around the world. We have two state-of-the-art potato processing plants in PEI and another in Jamestown, ND, and an appetizer plant in Wheatley, ON. Our Head office is in Dieppe, NB and sales office locations are in Toronto, Montreal and Boston.
This position reports to the Quality Assurance Supervisor and interacts daily with the shift manager, packaging supervisor, Quality Assurance Manager, and equipment operators. Non-supervisory role.
Major Responsibilities:

  • Take direction from the Shift Managers
  • Collect samples from line and test every thirty minutes
  • Test samples frozen and reconstituted for specifications listed in the database
  • Take appropriate and immediate action when product is found to be outside specifications
  • Communicate all results and observations to shift supervisor in a clear and timely manner
  • General housekeeping of the lab area and packaging areas as required
  • Perform rechecks on held product as required
  • Perform sanitation and allergen swab tests
  • Check operations of metal detector as required.
  • Check product rejected by metal detectors and X-ray.
  • Place product on hold as required
  • Perform HACCP and food safety inspections
  • Verify accuracy of bag weigher calibrations
  • Report food safety and quality issues to personnel with authority to initiate actions.
  • Commitment to Quality System Policy
Qualifications and Abilities
  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • Post secondary education in a food related discipline an asset
  • 2 years work experience in a food environment an asset.
  • Able to work nightshift and weekends
  • Willingness to learn
  • Work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative to complete assignments
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask
  • Knowledge and experience with HACCP and Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Ability to coordinate and cooperate with members of other departments
  • Self-motivated and able to work without close supervision
  • Proven ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Strong computer skills
