Senior Financial Accountant Job Openings in Edmonton

Reporting to the Director, Financial Planning and Reporting, you will provide strategic leadership, direction and coordination of a wide range of activities associated with financial reporting, implementation of the new ERP system and providing assistance to the financial services team. One of your key responsibilities will be to manage the planning and preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statements for the ministry, department and associated entities, including consolidation. The position liaises directly with the Office of the Auditor General and Treasury Board on matters of accounting policy and compliance with financial requirements. This position is also responsible for leading the preparation of the Public Accounts Committee briefing binder.
The candidate must be independent, a fast learner and tech savvy. Having an understanding of government financial acts/regulations/policies and departmental programs to be able to provide advice and sit on departmental and interdepartmental committees will be important in this role. The incumbent is also responsible for the monitoring, reporting and analyzing of financial information, which requires the ability to interpret and apply GAAP. The ability to independently prepare position papers to ensure accounting for new or complex transactions is in compliance with GAAP and government accounting policies will also be important for this role.
Your hands on management experience along with your ability to deliver results will enable you to work collaboratively with others, and establish and maintain open, consultative and effective relationships in providing quality service and enhancing business processes. You will have demonstrated excellence in the areas of leadership, coaching and mentoring your staff. If you consider yourself proficient Excel user, generally tech savvy, and ready to embrace the challenge related to the implementation of the new (SAP based) Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, and various post-implementation activities, we are looking for you!
Qualifications
A professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA) supplemented with a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible financial reporting experience, including preparation of financial statements, consolidation, etc. is required.

  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP to provide guidance to Senior Accounting staff and develop financial policies, procedures and provide advice on complex accounting issues is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of Excel, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (i.e. SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, etc.) and reporting tools is required, as the GoA is currently in the process of implementation of the new ERP system (SAP based)
  • Familiarity with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAB) and knowledge of IMAGIS (PeopleSoft) system and reporting tools (i.e. nVision, query, etc.) will be considered assets.

$2,863.28 to $3,760.56 bi-weekly
