Research Analyst Intern Job Openings in Vancouver

We need the help of a research and data analyst in an internship position funded by the Digital Skills for Youth Program of the Government of Canada. We are looking for someone with critical perspective and ability to synthesize complex research that uncovers facts and stories about the intersection of the built environment and human wellbeing. We are looking for someone who is willing to join our journey of curiosity and experimentation, and who is ready to learn a unique, evidence-based approach to nurturing wellbeing through design.

Most of all, we want someone who really cares about empowering people to build better cities.

If you join our team, you’ll be part of a small group of planners, architects, mobility nerds and communications specialists. We’ve been changing lives in communities big and small, from East Van to Dubai. We also go the extra mile to take care of each other.

THE ROLE

Your responsibilities in this role will be to:

  • Support our Housing Team in project proposals, research and delivery, including:
  • Conducting various desk-research tasks including literature reviews, and policy reviews
  • Conducting field research, sometimes with vulnerable populations in sensitive contexts
  • Identifying possible partners for research projects
  • Synthesizing and summarizing housing research and policy into accessible formats
  • Conducting data analysis that may include statistical regression analysis and ANOVA
  • Managing and organizing datasets
  • Supporting the submission of grant proposals and consulting proposals
  • Supporting the delivery of public engagement sessions and stakeholder workshops
  • Liaising with clients and collaborators to deliver project tasks
  • Conduct various research tasks for the entire team, including:
  • Conducting meta-analysis of academic papers and summarize learnings in accessible language
  • Visualizing research and data findings into tables, graphics and other mediums
  • Collecting data on cities that may include population data, mobility data, and other statistics
  • Conducting remote and in-person assessments of urban places

THE REQUIREMENTS

Required qualifications include:

  • University degree in social sciences, public policy, architecture or planning. Graduate degree is an asset.
  • 1-3 years equivalent experience in urban planning, architecture or research environment.
  • Experience in research projects and methodology design
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, such as regression analysis and ANOVA, is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Suite (especially InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) is an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of website programming and design.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Good graphic design skills for report and presentation design is a strong asset.

Funding for this position is in part from the Digital Skills for Youth Program of the Government of Canada. To be eligible you must:

  • Be a post-secondary graduate who is up to 30 years or younger at the start of this position.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e. Canadian citizen, permanent Resident or person who has been granted refugee status); and
  • Self-assess as underemployed, meaning you are employed below your level of education, outside your field of study, or you hold part-time employment.

More information about this position:

  • This is a 6 month long position. The position is funded through a federal grant and guarantees a minimum of 30 hours of work per week.
  • Exemplary performance in this position will increase your chances for permanent employment with our team.
  • Future permanent positions require relocation to our Vancouver office. However, for this internship and given the current situation with Covid-19, we will consider remote candidates given they fulfill the eligibility criteria for DS4Y funding.
  • We are only considering candidates at the intern or Junior level. The minimum compensation is the Vancouver living wage of $19.50 per hour. The maximum compensation for this position is $25 per hour.
  • Position includes benefits such as vacation, health leave, and health benefits.
