Labour Relations Analyst Job Opening in Mississauga

Reporting to the Director of Labour Relations the Labour Relations Analyst will work in collaboration with the finance and labour team as well as other internal and external teams to provide a comprehensive range of analytical and support services to all labour relations bargaining processes.


The Labour Relations Analyst is responsible for supporting financial planning, labour relations, across all Chartwells platforms with respect to labour costing and other ad hoc labour related requests. Will assist with the costing for collective bargaining negotiations, budgeting for each platform, accruals and reporting on a regular basis.


The Labour Relations Analyst will foster an ongoing environment of positive employee relations at all levels.



The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Perform timely and detailed reviews of collective agreements to ensure all financial / operational implications are addressed in preparation for mandate approval, collective bargaining and the development of annual operating budgets and accrual. Assist in the development and implementation of the annual mandate process.
  • Prepare regular Labour Relations reports for the Vice-President Human Resources & Labour Relations, Senior Director and /Directors, Labour Relations.
  • Prepare costing scenarios during collective bargaining negotiations ensuring agreements/settlements are fully costed, captured, and allocated.
  • Compile industry-relevant statistical research data to support collective bargaining proposals, negotiations, and strategy. Assist in building provincial sector labour data bases.
  • Support the Labour Relations team with requests pertaining monetary exception requests/extraordinary circumstances at the bargaining table.
  • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing statistical, and ad-hoc reports as needed.
  • Provide expertise and improvements of data entry, data quality, processing, and utilization.
  • Responsible to maintain and understand the applicable collective agreement to use as a resource for conducting data analysis
  • Ability to provide solutions to complex analytical data and can explain how those solutions work to non-accounting staff. Remains current with Provincial legislation and understands the impacts of collective agreements and their costing.
  • Develops and maintains labour costing models and reports relating to labour costs and projections.
  • Assists in maintenance and creation of wage grids. Assists in costing of mandate exceptions compensation for union contracts.

The ideal candidates will possess:

  • 5 or more years of progressive experience in labour relations and/or human resources, preferably in a complex multi-union environment.
  • Professional knowledge of labour relations and compensation and benefit issues.
  • Professional knowledge and experience of the seniors housing industry is preferred.
  • Well-developed research, reasoning, mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience preparing cost-analysis and presentation to senior executives.
  • Knowledge of the collective bargaining process is required. Prior costing experience with analytical/modelling in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Superior and proficient understanding of computer systems (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe).
  • Experience working with a modern HCM system.
  • Well-developed research, reasoning, mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in project management and leading projects from inception to implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of labour relations as well as knowledge and awareness of employment related legislation.
  • Knowledge of the collective bargaining process is required.
  • Excellent project management skills and process improvement methodologies required.
  • Minimum education required is a University Degree in Industrial Relations or Business Administration (or equivalent combination of education/experience) and an asset to also have one of the following fields: Data analytics/statistics.
  • Preference will be given to candidates possessing a post-secondary education in Labour or Industrial Relations or equivalent experience in a highly unionized public sector environment.
  • Minimum education required is a University Degree in Industrial Relations or Business Administration (or equivalent combination of education/experience) and an asset to also have one of the following fields: Data analytics/statistics.
  • Preference will be given to candidates possessing a post-secondary education in Labour or Industrial Relations or equivalent experience in a highly unionized public sector environment.
