Clerk B - Collection Accounts Clerk Job Openings in Winnipeg
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Clerk-Financial Services, the Collections Clerk is responsible for the addition of outstanding water and sewer charges to the property taxes and refunding of such charges once payment has been received. The incumbent is also responsible for notification letters to owners and tenants at various points in the collection cycle. Additionally the clerk is responsible for collection actions taken on accounts, correspondence, bankruptcies and issuing refunds.
As the Collections Clerk B you will:
Initiate collection actions on accounts according to established procedures.
Update and maintain information with the contracted collection agency.
Submit outstanding water and sewer charges to the Tax Department to be added to property taxes.
Advise Tax Department to remove water and sewer charges from property taxes when required.
Initiate and send landlord and tenant notices as required by the collection cycle.
Review automated notifications to ensure notice is correct and appropriate.
Record and monitor all outgoing correspondence.
Search various documents and sources to gather information.
Process refunds where applicable.
Initiate turn off of water service according to established procedures as required.
Review accounts disconnected for non-payment and follow up with Water Services as required.
Review and process all bankruptcy accounts for department.
Provide coverage during absences for the Senior Clerk-Finance as required.
Your education and qualifications include:
High school graduation or equivalent supplemented by formal training in accounting procedures or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Ability to retrieve and process information from the Tax system.
Ability to perform work that is detailed in nature requiring high level of accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to compute accurate mathematical calculations.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer working in a Windows environment. Demonstrated ability to work with various software packages including but not limited to Outlook, Word and Excel at a basic level as well as GIS based programs including IView.
Demonstrated ability to type 55 WPM net.
Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
Demonstrated ability to gather pertinent information, problem solve and exercise sound judgement regarding customer complaints, research or referrals.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
Demonstrated skill organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines and performance standards.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality with respect to dealing with sensitive documents and employee issues.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain composure and deal tactfully and diplomatically with a wide range of internal and external customers.
Demonstrated ability to access, update, and process information in the Water and Waste billing system, work order system, and PeopleSoft Financial system. Ability to acquire proficiency within 3 months is required.
Ability and willingness to learn and perform the duties of senior positions, as required.
Conditions of employment:
A Police Information Check satisfactory to the Employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense.
