(OCAD U)—Canada’s largest and oldest art and design post-secondary institution—invites applications for the position of University Librarian. In order to rectify the underrepresentation of racialized and Indigenous administrators, and in accordance with the University’s special program under the Ontario Human Rights Code, priority in hiring will be given to qualified racialized and Indigenous persons who self-identify as such in the application process.
OCAD U is undergoing a dramatic evolution that is strengthening its position as a global leader in art and design practice, research, and education. It is home to three Faculties, Art, Design, and Liberal Arts & Sciences and School of Interdisciplinary Studies, as well as Graduate Studies. OCAD U’s Library nurtures a learning ecology extending beyond the classroom and studio, where the OCAD U community engages in historical, critical and scientific inquiry, research, lifelong learning and the celebration of creativity, experimentation and innovation. The Library is comprised of three campus locations that offer distinct collections, services, and programs: The Dorothy H. Hoover Library, The Learning Zone and Visual Resources & Special Collections.

It is an exciting time to join OCAD U as the University is at a key stage of its institutional transformation, with the implementation of its Academic Plan and its six guiding principles: decolonization, diversity and equity, sustainability, valuing faculty, interdisciplinarity and health and wellness.
Reporting to the Vice-President, Academic & Provost, the University Librarian is responsible for the delivery of a modern and effective library system that meets both institutional needs and the individual requirements of students, faculty, staff, researchers and members of the local and wider communities. A member of Senate, the University Librarian works collaboratively and in close consultation with Deans, the Vice-President, Academic & Provost, faculty, students and Library staff. This role directs five operating units: Office of University Librarian, Circulation & Technical Services, Reference & Instructional Services (including the Learning Zone), E-Resources & E-Learning Support, and Visual Resources & Special Collections (including the University Archives).
