Administrator (Project Management)

The is an award-winning Health Access Centre that provides

holistic health services to First Nation, Inuit and Métis people living in Ottawaone of the fastest

growing and diverse urban Indigenous communities in Canada. Wabano is a fast-paced, client-

oriented organization that models the Indigenous values of balance, respect and community

interdependence.

Purpose of Position

This position involves providing intensive project management support and leading teams. It

would centre on planning, organizing, coordinating and implementation of new projects

including post implementation follow up to ensure successful completion.

Major Responsibilities: 

Manage the entire lifecycle of projects, ranging from strategic planning initiatives to
tactical activities; 

Establish a Project Charter for the specified project, defining the project's goals,
objectives, risks, assumptions, staffing levels, roles and responsibilities, work breakdown
structure, milestones, and deliverables; 

Manage project activities throughout the lifecycle, including the allocation of adequate
resources, scheduling, documentation, and other factors necessary for success; 

Plan all project timelines, milestones, deliverables, and micro-deliverables using the
appropriate software tools and/or performance management methods; 

Organize project teams into suitable workgroups and guide the teams throughout their
efforts to produce deliverables according to specification; 

Establish and deliver mechanisms for tracking project progress and reporting to
stakeholders via a formal communications plan; 

Reallocate resources across multiple projects where necessary; identify and resolve any
resource allocation discrepancies;


Adhere to established methodologies for project management; 
Produce regular reports (status, escalations, etc.) on the progress of projects; deliver

these reports in a timely manner; 
Identify and resolve conflicts within project teams and associate work; create

contingency plans to mitigate risk; 
Manage project dependencies; 
Conduct project post mortems in order to identify areas for improvement; make

recommendations based on findings; 
Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

University degree in social work, health or related field combined with 2 years of related
experience in project management; 

Knowledge, sensitivity and awareness of the history, culture, and unique needs of the
urban Indigenous population; 

Experience working with the Indigenous community; 

Demonstrated success in project delivery and execution of project management
methods; 

Prior experience of handling projects and managing teams in the not for profit sector; 

Superb creation and facilitation of meetings, feedback sessions, and briefings in order to
create consensus among stakeholders; 

Ability to create and edit project documents, materials, and presentations; 

Advanced communication skills to persuasively communicate complex needs; 

Able to effectively communicate with all types of staff, including technical, professional,
and upper management; 

Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills; 

Self-starter with the ability to be a team player; 

Excellent computer skills in MS Office and MS Outlook and enhanced ability to learn
new computer-based reporting programs; 

Highly effective negotiation, diplomatic, and conflict resolutions skills; 

Willingness to work flexible hours (some evenings may be required);

Specifications: 

Preference will be given to applicants of First Nations, Inuit or Métis descent (please
self-identify to receive preference) 
