Company description

Mountain Rose Women's Shelter Association (MRWSA) was incorporated in 1990 and since that time provides services to women and children who are in immediate need of safety and security due to domestic/family violence. Our Mission is to provide resources and support to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence in Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County. Our Vision is to ensure the availability of 24 hour crisis intervention, domestic violence support, resources and accommodation, while promoting a non-violent society through prevention, education and awareness. In September 2019, The Mountain Rose Center opened. This new location provides a 21 bed emergency shelter, 5 Second Stage/Transitional Apartments, administrative office, and a variety of Community Support Services.

CRISIS WORKER

JOB DESCRIPTION

The responsibilities of the position include ensuring documentation related to statistics and client(s) files is current, and facilitating a team environment among all shelter staff. The Crisis Worker is also responsible for ensuring that all security features are functional and shelter personnel and clients follow established procedures. It is also expect that all staff complete basic maintenance and housekeeping duties of the shelter in compliance with health and safety standards.

All staff is expected to respect, and facilitate, the security of the shelter, shelter personnel, and shelter clients. All staff will ensure all duties associated with the position and the specific shifts are completed in a timely and appropriate manner.

SERVICE DELIVERY

  • Develop supportive relationships within a crisis intervention and domestic violence framework. Educating women to their alternatives and assisting in problem solving in a manner both flexible and appropriate to their individual needs. Staff response is non-judgmental and empathetic.
  • Participate in the Intensive Case Management Team meetings, using Trauma Informed Practices, to assess risk and provide specialized housing and support services to ensure that the unique needs of the women and children leaving family violence are met.
  • Assess the immediate physical and medical needs of the client and her children and make appropriate referrals upon admission.
  • Ensure clients are properly oriented to the house including shelter policies and procedures in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Work with the clients to: identify needs (emotional, parenting, medical, legal, cultural, spiritual, financial, and housing), develop a relevant case plan, ensure referral/connection to appropriate resources, and support client in following through in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring the physical needs of food, shelter and safety are provided for women and children in crisis, 24 hours per day, and seven days per week.
  • Respond to crisis calls and general business calls in a respectful, timely, and conscientious manner
  • Undertake an advocacy/mediator role, as needed, to assist the client in developing linkages with other resources. (Maintains a comprehensive working knowledge of community resources pertinent to the clients needs. Ensures that clients and staff are aware of the community resources and activities).
  • Undertake a teaching role, and facilitate a positive parent/child interaction, by providing information and role modeling of appropriate parenting behaviors.
  • Provide support and/or debriefing to staff as needed.
  • In exceptional circumstances, provide competent care of the children’s physical and emotional needs in the mother’s absence.
  • On a daily basis, clearly and concisely document pertinent information and observations.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of community resources relevant to residents of all ages.
  • Represent the agency to service providers and community agencies and services in a positive and professional manner.
  • Be a team player

Part-time hours: 28 per week
