Production Supervisor Job Openings in Vancouver

Full-time, Permanent

We are in search of a Full Time Production Supervisor for our Clark Drive Facility which produces our chocolate, confections, beverages and more. This position reports to the Owner + Founder.

Zimt is a fast growing startup company that sells delicious, healthy, and above all, ethical confections across Canada and in select US locations. To keep up with demand and to help grow the company, we need to add a long term, committed, hard-working, intelligent and independent person to our team. This role would best be suited for a highly organized, detail oriented, high-energy individual- there’s always lots to do and the job can get pretty physical. If you hate being bored and watching the clock tick by at work- this position may be a good option for you! We are looking to transition this person into a Production Management position. Individual must have a consistently good attitude- there is no room for drama.

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision

  • In conjunction with the Owner + Founder:
  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of production department within the facility
  • Develop and implement plans to efficiently use materials, labour and equipment to meet production targets
  • Develop production schedules and maintain an inventory of raw materials and finished products
  • Direct quality control inspection system
  • Hire, supervise and train or oversee training of employees in the use of new equipment or production techniques
  • Aptitude for mechanical work and troubleshooting
  • On-call availability during off-shift for troubleshooting assistance

1 – Capacity Utilization

  • Optimize product change overs, cleaning, packaging sanitation and equipment sanitation
  • Participate in and assist with equipment troubleshooting activities
  • Tracking packaging materials for usage/loss rates, maintain packaging machine logs, and participate in process improvement initiatives
  • Optimize manufacturing schedules according to client deadlines, raw material availability, finished goods inventory and equipment cleaning needs

2 – Quality Control

  • Understanding of quality control checks during machine operation, ensuring that product passes quality specifications.
  • Ensuring packaging machines are in running condition, which involves basic cleaning and maintenance, minor repairs, and troubleshooting, such as oiling and/or greasing equipment as required
  • Escalating problems to Manager, or the maintenance team and working with team to resolve

3 – Compliance

  • Ensuring all legislated and company issued Policies & Procedures are followed. Governing bodies include and are not limited to WorkSafe BC, GMP, CFIA
  • Operate according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for equipment and quality. Participate in creation or improvement of SOP’s
  • Actively participating in relevant Health and Safety (EHS) programs/initiatives, complying with environmental health and safety standards and procedures. Acts in a manner consistent with health and safety policy, which includes wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times while in production facility

4 - Other:

  • Communicating with coworkers, supervisors, and management, either face-to-face or via mail/text
  • Willing and able to train on multiple pieces of equipment
  • Provide on-the-job training to other employees where required
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Have an eye for detail and can uphold a clean environment.
  • Working quickly and efficiently, without losing attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm for our company values
  • Good interpersonal skills and respectful of co-workers
  • Manufacturing and packaging our products, processing raw materials into WOP

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in English required
  • Completion of High School Diploma
  • 1 year of food manufacturing experience is an asset
  • 1+ year of Supervisor experience
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and effective decision-making skills
  • Organizational skills and time management
  • Ability to work autonomously and with a strong sense of ownership is a must
  • Open to learning and improving own skills with a can-do attitude
  • Willing to work Overtime & Weekends as required for production requirements
  • Electrical/Mechanical aptitude is an asset
  • Shift work is required
  • Valid Level 1 First Aid Certificate an asset
  • Able to lift 50 lbs several times a day, as needed (we also have equipment to assist with this)

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Compensation: Starting rate is $16/hour + tips and bus fare (if using) at $2.10/day maximum

The chosen candidate will participate in mandatory, quarterly reviews after probation period has been completed. The reviews will directly reflect the components outlined in this job description.
