Commercial Carpenter Job Opening in Thunder

Kenon Builders is looking for experienced, reliable and committed Journeyman/woman Carpenter(s) to join our team! Successful candidates will undertake an array of carpentry tasks for a variety of private and public commercial/light industrial projects, located in Kenora and the surrounding communities in the beautiful Northwestern Ontario.

Who We Are

Since our inception in 2000, Kenon Builders Inc., located in Kenora, ON has steadily grown from a two to three employee operation, completing projects consecutively, to a company with over 20 full-time employees. Kenon Builders Inc. simultaneously manages multiple large building projects, as well as in-house engineering/project design and permitting requirements, and in-house heavy equipment and electrical operations for our own building projects in addition to stand-alone earthworks and electrical projects. We specialize in general contracting, electrical installations and systems, construction management, and design /build services for both private and capital commercial and electrical construction.


  • Fabricate wood sections and components using woodworking and metalworking equipment
  • Build and oversee the installation of supporting and safety framework such as support poles
  • Utilize power drills in creating bolt holes on concrete walls, timber or other wood stock
  • Assemble and join wood parts using screw, nails or bolts to construct the framework of a structure
  • Erect construction forms and temporary structures such as scaffolds, hoists, and framework
  • Study and review construction blueprints to determine work requirements and specifications
  • Cut or saw timbers, boards and plywood to desired size using power saw, handsaw or other cutting equipment
  • Use measuring tapes, rules and squares to measure materials and distance in order to lay out construction work
  • Install building fixtures among which include doors, windows, floor and wall boards
  • Direct and supervise construction personnel to ensure compliance with set objectives
  • Verify the horizontal and vertical elevation of wooden structure using plumb line and level
  • Brace and anchor wood structures using anchor rods, steel cables and wedges
  • Use scribers and pencil to indicate reference points for cutting
  • Adhere to safety/health regulations and procedures when carrying out construction operations.


  • Proven experience as Carpenter with a Red Seal Journeyman/women ticket
  • Experience in commercial/industrial construction settings
  • Demonstrable ability to use power and hand tools (e.g. skill & mitre saws, impact & hammer drills) and understand drawings and blueprints
  • Have own power and hand tools (toolbox) required to perform work in the field, other special item provided by employer
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent physical condition and flexibility
  • Valid driver license with a clean abstract considered an asset
